Rice University Centennial Celebration

Rice University commissioned, the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston to create 4, 8×8 family friendly sidewalk chalk experiences with the campus logo to help commemorate the University’s 100 Year Anniversary.  The Centennial Celebration logo mark features the Athenian owl with its eyes forming the double zeroes in “100.”  Edgar Odell Lovett, the founding president of Rice, adopted the Athenian owl as a symbol of the institute in 1912.

This family project jumped off the sidewalks and helped visitors celebrate Rice’s first 100 years, plus it set another major milestone to the remarkable journey that has transformed Rice from a bold little institute on the edge of the prairie to a thriving international university on the cutting edge of education and research.

MOCAH was so honored to not only host an interactive sidewalk chalk mural but to become apart of Rice University’s rich history.  Happy 100 years Rice and many more!
